God's strategies for success!
Hi all, thanks for all your support and prayers for me and my family. I really appreciate all your various smses and condolences that you have sent me. Truly, i thank God for great brothers and sisters like all of u.... XD
Anyway, this is part 3 of God's strategies for success. May u be greatly blessed by the word and may it help u upon the decsion(s) that u have 2 make in life.
3. BE COMMITTED TO YOUR DECISION(S)
So what does this heading really mean? In short, this heading means once you’ve started, never ever look back. Luke 9:62 says “No man having put his hand to the plow and looking back is fit for the kingdom of heaven.” Don’t look back! Any farmer knows that if he looks back while he’s plowing, he’s going to plow a weavy line. Commitment is the key to accomplishment. No commitment means you’ll never finish anything.
Once again, let us refer back to the book of Joshua chapter 1. In verse 9, its says "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Come, let us take a look at the word again, from the modern context point of view...This is what God is actually saying in verse 9 “Joshua, don’t be terrified. Don’t be discouraged. For the Lord, your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Stick with it!
Hang in there!
Keep at it!
Keep on keeping on!
Be committed to your decision(s).
Once you’ve made it, stick with it.
Maybe i shd ask u all a qn today.... What are you committed to? Well, lets just say, a lot of people today are afraid of commitment. Rather, they’re afraid of making commitments. One instance would be job-hopping for adults. An International Survey Research conducted in 2002/03 found out that Singaporean workers were ranked among the least committed in the workplace. One min, they can be starting on a job and when that gets tough, they switch to another. They’re constantly switching jobs = job hopping.
Sometimes, the same applies to marriages as well. People tend to find it hard to make a commitment to that. This subsequently leads to them moving from one relationship to another.
Lets take it a bit closer to us, shall we? Some students do their assignments or projects bit by bit. Meaning they do a bit here, a bit there. (mind the singlish k?) Anyway as a result, they never finish anything!!! They just start a lot of things and move around.
And how abt church-goers??? Some christians float in and out of churches because they make no kind of commitment to the house of God. Thats sad isnt it? This just goes to show how important having commitment in your life is. The favourite phrase among people without committment is “if it doesn’t work out then i'll quit...” But friends, the fact is, high achievers make a decision and they die by it. Furthermore, the bible says "We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." LOL, how to be a conqueror if u cant be committed towards the things that u are doing now???
Notice what Joshua did in Joshua 3. Notice how Joshua prepared the people to be committed, to make the effort. They were getting ready to go into the Promised Land. They were on one side of the Jordon River. They’re getting ready to cross it. This is their graduation day. This is the point of no return. This is the moment of truth, the time of decision.
Its like taking a roller coaster ride at the amusement park. How many of us kw that when the carridge comes to a certain high point, there is no other alternative but to go down. U cant just say, "Arragh, i dun want! I want out!!" Haha, no choice le. U just have 2 stick on with the ride and hope that u will enjoy it all when it ends.
Lets us now look at what Joshua did in Joshua 3:5, there he said to the people “Consecrate yourselves. For tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” So what is the meaning of the word consecrate? Consecrate means an act of total, unconditional, unreserved commitment. It means laying it all on the line, going for the broke. The children of Israel were in essence saying “God, we’re going to go for it even if we fail!” And that, according to God, is a principle for success. You be clear in your destination! You be confident in your desires and you be committed to your decisions!! In simple terms, you go for them!!!
Sometimes that’s what you have to do in life. You have to commit yourself to something such that there’s no way out. You be committed to your decision(s).
However, there are some things you can’t do a little at a time. Like if I were to say “I’m going to jump across a huge gap by taking several baby steps.” You’ll know for a fact that it wouldn’t work. You can’t jump across the Grand Canyon in baby steps. You go for the broke, meaning you either do it or you don’t. This is the point that im trying to get accross here. Be committed to your decision(s)!
And once again, we will be looking at some typical things that will discourage you and will tempt you to give up. Here are three common things:
1. Problems. Problems will tempt you to give up. Let me get this point out to all of u here: Every good idea has something wrong with it; every good idea has a problem to it. Therefore, you don’t reject something just because it’s got a problem to it. Even the Promised Land had problems and God has given them this.
2. Pressures. Pressures will tempt you to give up. You want to say “This is too much responsibility! I’m going to throw in the towel. I can’t do this on my own. I can’t handle the pressure. I want to quit. I want to give up.” For Christians, a problem or pressures in life should never be able to get you down, except maybe down on your knees. Haha, this means that they should be turned into prayer requests instead!
3. People. People will tempt you to give up, to let go of your commitments. Sometimes, they will even disappoint you and in some instances you can even be misunderstood by them. It may even lead to lots of ridicule and criticisms. The fact is, negative attitudes are contagious. So stay positive and stay committed to your decision(s) k?
In summary, the third key in God’s strategy for success is to never give up. It means to show commitment. Be clear in your direction. Be confident in your desires. Be committed to your decision(s).
Some of you have struggles in your life. I believe this is partly due to the fact that you’ve never committed yourself to saying “We will make this work no matter what it takes.” It takes that kind of commitment to make things work and that is how we can all be more than conqeuerors in Christ!
Anyway, this is part 3 of God's strategies for success. May u be greatly blessed by the word and may it help u upon the decsion(s) that u have 2 make in life.
