God's strategies for success!

Hi all, thanks for all your support and prayers for me and my family. I really appreciate all your various smses and condolences that you have sent me. Truly, i thank God for great brothers and sisters like all of u.... XD

Anyway, this is part 3 of God's strategies for success. May u be greatly blessed by the word and may it help u upon the decsion(s) that u have 2 make in life.

3. BE COMMITTED TO YOUR DECISION(S)

So what does this heading really mean? In short, this heading means once you’ve started, never ever look back. Luke 9:62 says “No man having put his hand to the plow and looking back is fit for the kingdom of heaven.” Don’t look back! Any farmer knows that if he looks back while he’s plowing, he’s going to plow a weavy line. Commitment is the key to accomplishment. No commitment means you’ll never finish anything.

Once again, let us refer back to the book of Joshua chapter 1. In verse 9, its says "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Come, let us take a look at the word again, from the modern context point of view...This is what God is actually saying in verse 9 “Joshua, don’t be terrified. Don’t be discouraged. For the Lord, your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Stick with it!
Hang in there!
Keep at it!
Keep on keeping on!
Be committed to your decision(s).
Once you’ve made it, stick with it.

Maybe i shd ask u all a qn today.... What are you committed to? Well, lets just say, a lot of people today are afraid of commitment. Rather, they’re afraid of making commitments. One instance would be job-hopping for adults. An International Survey Research conducted in 2002/03 found out that Singaporean workers were ranked among the least committed in the workplace. One min, they can be starting on a job and when that gets tough, they switch to another. They’re constantly switching jobs = job hopping.

Sometimes, the same applies to marriages as well. People tend to find it hard to make a commitment to that. This subsequently leads to them moving from one relationship to another.

Lets take it a bit closer to us, shall we? Some students do their assignments or projects bit by bit. Meaning they do a bit here, a bit there. (mind the singlish k?) Anyway as a result, they never finish anything!!! They just start a lot of things and move around.

And how abt church-goers??? Some christians float in and out of churches because they make no kind of commitment to the house of God. Thats sad isnt it? This just goes to show how important having commitment in your life is. The favourite phrase among people without committment is “if it doesn’t work out then i'll quit...” But friends, the fact is, high achievers make a decision and they die by it. Furthermore, the bible says "We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." LOL, how to be a conqueror if u cant be committed towards the things that u are doing now???

Notice what Joshua did in Joshua 3. Notice how Joshua prepared the people to be committed, to make the effort. They were getting ready to go into the Promised Land. They were on one side of the Jordon River. They’re getting ready to cross it. This is their graduation day. This is the point of no return. This is the moment of truth, the time of decision.

Its like taking a roller coaster ride at the amusement park. How many of us kw that when the carridge comes to a certain high point, there is no other alternative but to go down. U cant just say, "Arragh, i dun want! I want out!!" Haha, no choice le. U just have 2 stick on with the ride and hope that u will enjoy it all when it ends.

Lets us now look at what Joshua did in Joshua 3:5, there he said to the people “Consecrate yourselves. For tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” So what is the meaning of the word consecrate? Consecrate means an act of total, unconditional, unreserved commitment. It means laying it all on the line, going for the broke. The children of Israel were in essence saying “God, we’re going to go for it even if we fail!” And that, according to God, is a principle for success. You be clear in your destination! You be confident in your desires and you be committed to your decisions!! In simple terms, you go for them!!!

Sometimes that’s what you have to do in life. You have to commit yourself to something such that there’s no way out. You be committed to your decision(s).

However, there are some things you can’t do a little at a time. Like if I were to say “I’m going to jump across a huge gap by taking several baby steps.” You’ll know for a fact that it wouldn’t work. You can’t jump across the Grand Canyon in baby steps. You go for the broke, meaning you either do it or you don’t. This is the point that im trying to get accross here. Be committed to your decision(s)!

And once again, we will be looking at some typical things that will discourage you and will tempt you to give up. Here are three common things:

1. Problems. Problems will tempt you to give up. Let me get this point out to all of u here: Every good idea has something wrong with it; every good idea has a problem to it. Therefore, you don’t reject something just because it’s got a problem to it. Even the Promised Land had problems and God has given them this.

2. Pressures. Pressures will tempt you to give up. You want to say “This is too much responsibility! I’m going to throw in the towel. I can’t do this on my own. I can’t handle the pressure. I want to quit. I want to give up.” For Christians, a problem or pressures in life should never be able to get you down, except maybe down on your knees. Haha, this means that they should be turned into prayer requests instead!

3. People. People will tempt you to give up, to let go of your commitments. Sometimes, they will even disappoint you and in some instances you can even be misunderstood by them. It may even lead to lots of ridicule and criticisms. The fact is, negative attitudes are contagious. So stay positive and stay committed to your decision(s) k?

In summary, the third key in God’s strategy for success is to never give up. It means to show commitment. Be clear in your direction. Be confident in your desires. Be committed to your decision(s).

Some of you have struggles in your life. I believe this is partly due to the fact that you’ve never committed yourself to saying “We will make this work no matter what it takes.” It takes that kind of commitment to make things work and that is how we can all be more than conqeuerors in Christ!

God's strategies for success!

Hi all. Firstly, I just want to say a word of thanks for praying for my mother. I believe each and every single one of your prayers was heard by God and He answered them XD So I'm truly gratelful for all of your support during this time... THANK YOU!

Secondly, here is the second part of God's strategies for success. May this word come forth and take you to greater heights in your walk with God!

2. BE CONFIDENT IN YOUR DESIRES

Typically, once you set a God given goal, you will begin to doubt it. You will begin to question it and you will begin to ask yourself things like, “Is this really God’s will?” “Does God really want me to have this? Do I really deserve this? Is this just a selfish request? What if I’m wrong?”

And this will soon lead you to start second guessing yourself. And the bible says “A double minded man is unstable in all of his ways.” Therefore to overcome all these self-doubts, you not only have to be clear in your destination, your direction, what do you want out of life but you also have to be confident in that desire!

Its just like playing in a competitive game.

Case scenario: You are in the clear and you look set to score the winning point for your team. The fans are on their feet, cheering u on. Suddenly just as you are about to shoot, you begin to entertain thoughts that say, "What if I miss? Then i'll look really bad. Hmm... I better pass the ball to my teammate, I'm sure he/she can finish off the move better than i do." And what do u kw; that the moment you do just that, you lost the ball! The Fans immediately start to groan...

Haha, sounds so dramatic eh? Yes, i kw, this case scenario that i've just stated may nt be applicable in your life but friends, how many of u kw that it doesn't have to be in a competitive sports game that u begin to face doubts about yourself? (your gifts, talents and abilities etc...)

The truth is, we start doubting the very goals that God gives us. You’ve got to have confidence. You’ve got to believe in God. You’ve got to believe in yourself. You have to believe that God wants to bless your life. You have to be confident in your desires!

Evidently, Joshua had a problem with this. Over and over he felt very inadequate. In this passage, God is seen to be persistently giving Joshua a prep talk. Four times in the passage, God says to Joshua “You can do it! Go for it!” In verse 6; God says to Joshua “Be strong and courageous.” Verse 7; He says “Be strong and very courageous.” Verse 9; He says “Be strong and very courageous.” Verse 18; He says “Be strong and very courageous.” Four times! He’s trying to say “Get the point, Joshua?!”

The literal translation of this in Hebrew and this is the way the Good News Bible translates it, is “Be determined and confident.” Joshua, believe! Believe I can do it. Believe you can do it. “Be determined and confident.”

So why does God say that? The reason is simple, it is the fear, and not the problems that is keeping you in the wilderness. It’s not the problems of the Promised Land. Even the Promised Land has problems. In fact, it has giants in it. You have problems wherever you are. But it’s the fear that keeps you in the wilderness and you must be confident in your desires. Then you can overcome your fear!

So nw i will share with everyone 3 things that threathen to rob us of our confidence. They are:

1. Experience. Experience robs us of confidence. You say “but experience should make me more confident what?!” Haha. Well friends, that is not necessarily the case. It all depends on what kinds of experiences you’ve had.

If you’ve had a bunch of failures, heartbreaks, and hurts, you might have the tendency to say “It’s never worked before. It’s never been done before. Why should I try again? I’ve always failed.” Thus, sometimes, inexperience is an asset because you don’t know what’s impossible. You just go ahead and try to do it. You never let a bad memory ruin your future. In short, experience will rob you of confidence.

2. Emotions. Emotions will rob you of confidence. A lot of people – and i mean most – tend to make decisions based on their moods. They say things like “I don’t feel like it!” “I’m just too tired.” If you’re going to be successful, you have to learn to master your moods. The fact is, most things are accomplished by people who don’t feel doing it at the time. Thus, we all have to learn not to let our emotions dictate the direction of our lives.

3. Excuses. This can be in the form of rationalisations or justifications. Here are some common excuses: “I don’t have the time. I don’t have the money. I don’t have the ability. I don’t have the energy. I don’t have the education.” All of these are excuses. The bible says “you have not because you ask not.” So, don’t use your inadequacies as an excuse, but rather, use it as a prayer request instead!

To end off this segment, i just want to say... That when you are committed to doing the will of God, God can speak through your desires! Yes, thats right!! This means God can use your desires as guiding steps when you are sincerely saying “God, I’m predetermined to do Your will.” Therefore, be clear in your direction and be confident in your desires and i believe you will have a breakthrough in your life!!!

God's strategies for success!

Hi all, its been a looooooooooong time since i last posted something le. Haha. So i'm just glad that i can put a stop 2 that, with this super cool msg/sermon that i read recently. This sermon was originally done by Rick Warren and i have decided to adapt it into 6 small parts. Hopefully all of you will find the sermon interesting but more 2 that... May applying these principles, bring forth numerous sucesses in your life as well! XD

Book of Joshua chapt 1.

After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses, my servant, is dead. Now then, you and all of these people get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I’m going to give them [the Israelites]. I will give you every place where you set your foot as I promised Moses. "

This is going to be an exciting day for the children of Israel. They’re getting ready to enter into the land for the very first time! In other words, this is the graduation day for them . However, God seems to have given Joshua an impossible assignment here. He said to Joshua “I want you to possess the land(Israel).” But in reading from Deu 7:1, it tells us that there were seven enemy nations in the Promised Land. Wow, thats a lot! but thats nt all; each nation was individually larger and stronger than Israel!! So in order to possess the Promised Land, Joshua and the children of Israel were going to have to knock out seven major enemies. Thus, this tells us that even the Promised Land has problems.

But do get something, friends, God never asks us to do anything without His help. In fact, He gave Joshua a five point strategy for success and that’s what we are going to look at today – all of God's strategies for success! The word “success” is used twice in this passage of scripture. In verses 7 and 8, we find the promise where God says “If you do what I have said, I guarantee you’ll be successful. So now, we’re going to look at the steps for God’s strategy for success.

1. BE CLEAR IN YOUR DIRECTION

That’s the starting point. God specifically outlines the What, When, Where and the Why for the Joshua and the children of Israel before they are due to take over the land. In simple terms, this is what God is actually saying: This is what I want you to do. You need a clear cut goal. You don’t need a vague goal. You need a precise idea, for instance: Where am I headed in life?

Most people just don't seem to have a clue what they want out of their lives. As a result, they experience a lot of frustration in their lives and they end up saying things like "Sian ar, why do i find it hard 2 maintain/regain control of my life? Thus, there is an important truth we all need to know here... God wants us to know exactly where we’re headed in life and therefore, we need a clear (not a vague) goal.

God himself sets an example for us by being very specific. In fact, he defines exactly what Joshua is to take over when speaking to him."Your territory will extend from the desert and from Lebanon to the great river of the Euphrates, all the Hittite countries, and to the Great Sea on the west and no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life.
