Xingjie's birthday and Ernest's study tips (FINAL EPISODE!)

Okie, i knw i hvn been posting abt Ernest's study tips, was quite busy these few days and Qm keeps taking up my slots xD so.... before that, wanna wish who a HAPPY BELATED? XINGJIE~ WOOOOOOO~ *cheers, standing ovation* yeps, ytd was Xingjie's birthday, didnt get to inform you all here, haha! but its not too late to wish him though, so if you havent, send him a quick sms or in FB (: HAPPY BELATED XINGJIE

Alright, now.. lets just continue with our final study journey okay? :D *fasten seatbelts* wheee~(i knw i'm childish xD)

Lesson 6 - Memory

Recall graph – Your memory decays rapidly. To retain as much information as possible, you need to recall at various intervals: 0hr, 24hr, 48hr, 1 week…
Or else 70-80% of info will be LOST(lost i tell ya!)

(ya i knw th picture is small, bt i cant make it ani larger)

· USE YOUR 5 SENSES
· USE YOUR IMAGINATION
· Talk to yourself

Here’s an example of how I memorized 6 points in a really boring subject:

Causes of laboratory acquired infections:
1) Contact with lab animals
2) Ingestion of foods
3) Inoculation with sharps (needles etc.)
4) Skin-eye contact
5) Inhalation
6) Spillage

Firstly, use your creativity as well as your logic to study!

I imagined in my mind’s eye that I’m eating putrefying meat on a table with a glass of algae-infested milk (Ingestion). I drop the glass and break it, severely cutting my hand and wrist (Inoculation) as it was spilt (Spillage). That spill results in me breathing in some of the worst smelling milk ever (Inhalation)! Before I can grab my wound which is spilling warm and bright red blood, a purple and black cat (animals) jumps on the table at the milk, scratching out my eyeballs and flesh (skin-eye)!

Grotesque you say? How can you forget such a picture? It gets the job done!

Don’t you think studying can actually be fun? It does when you learn the art of using your untapped imagination! You are the script-writer!

I used my 5 senses to paint a story in my mind. It’s unlikely that I will forget such a scenario when I see the test question!

**Disclaimer: I’m still getting used to this unorthodox method of studying

Lesson 7 - Study Groups

Study groups are a good way to reinforce information! However, it can be more of a distraction, wasting all your time instead of being an effective one!

·
Maximum 3 – 4 people

· NO Gossipers, Gamers, Sleepers, Stressors present

· Come prepared to ask Qs and Clear doubts, NOT to learn all over again!

·
BREAKS 30:5min, 45:10min, 60:15min (DON’T study without breaks)

Study places:

· AVOID FASTFOOD OUTLETS & FOOD COURTS and the like

· Air Conditioning is a MUST (your brain works best at 19 °C)

· Silence with soft classical LYRIC-less music

·
Home or library recommended (Remove all sources of distractions: aka Hp)

·
NEVER EVER study on the bed (or else your mind will associate your bed as a place of work instead of rest)

Lesson 8 - Class room

This is your battlefield(boom boom!), period.

·Sit away from the windows and doors if possible

·Look out for tell-tale signs of hints given and record!

*Remember, your teachers are the ones setting the exam!!!

·Try to position yourself such that the teacher is on your RIGHT (You remember 50% better this way)

·Come prepared with questions of your own, recap immediately after the lesson (remember the memory graph?)

·Know that you can always approach your teachers after the lesson (you won’t be embarrassed! Even better, you can get “close” to them)

TTs all for now = ) = ) =)

Go get YOUR A1s!!!

Remember:

Matthew 6:33 – But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you

Proverbs 23:7 – For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he

Proverbs 13:20 – He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed

James 1:5 – If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him

Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Alright! (: thats all for now, thanks for taking your time to read these tips xD i'm going back to my E-learning nw T,T sobs~ xD SEEYA!

Hey all! Today we are going to continue our Study Guide Journey! *giggles*
Well, i'm sure you all have read lesson 1 and 2 haven't you? Did it help? Hopefully it did! (:

Lets continue to lesson 3-5 shall we? (:

Lesson 3 - Fitness

·Aerobic exercise

Your brain needs tons of OXYGEN to function effectively. Aerobic exercise pushes your body to deliver oxygen better to the brain through blood flow and bigger lungs. Your brain also adapts to this new stress by increasing its capacity!!

You should also stretch occasionally during study breaks to better your blood flow.

·Posture

NEVER slouch when studying! Affects oxygen delivered to brain.

(i bet you didnt know that :P well, neither did i :x)

·Strength training

It is a good idea to train your forearms and wrist flexors as they will aid you in writing really, really fast during the exams without tiring out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lesson 4 - Rest

While sleeping, your body undergoes a tremendous amount of healing and repair, while stockpiling the essential chemicals required for the next day. Sleep deprivation is a sure way to kill your brain!!!

· Sleep: 7-9hrs daily

· NEVER NAP FOR MORE THAN 90 min (Makes you really tired after that)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lesson 5 - Music

Music is important as it stimulates the right brain (creativity). It creates the mood for studying by altering your hormonal and mental state.

· Studying/Learning: Classical music (Theta state of mind, semi-conscious state)

· Before Tests/Exam: Techno Superfast music (Triggers fight-or-flight response)

I stress this: your music must have NO LYRICS!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, our journey ends here for today, hopefully you guys can catch these few tips that Professor Ernest has kindly prepared for us. Till Next Time! ((:

Ps:/If you guys want the music "Heart Of The Forest" let me know kay? i have it.(:

Study Tips #1 and #2

Welcome to our very first post on study tips, prepared by our cellgroup scholar, Ernest Wong!

I'm sure all of us have an innate desire to shine for Christ in our studies, and to become among top of our cohort. But perhaps we do not feel that we can do it, because of our past results. Let me submit to you that IT IS POSSIBLE! All things are possible to him who believes! You must have faith in God, but also in yourself!

There are a total of 8 lessons that Ernest prepared, and today we will discuss lessons #1 and #2.

Are you ready? Here they are:

#1 A New Mindset

"For as he thinks in his heart, so is he..."
- Proverbs 23:7 -

This is the most important lesson if you want to shine for Christ in your campus!

If you want to be an "A" student, start behaving like one! As quoted from pastor: "Stop sitting around the premises waiting for the promises". We have to add the works to our faith! Praying for "A"s without proper studying will only lead to frustration.

Your intelligence is LIMITLESS!
Here are some facts about your brain:
  • It has the power of 1,000,000,000,000 (no typo) Pentium 4 laptops!
  • You only use 1-2% (3% if you're a genius) of it
Really begin to believe that you have the tools to do well!

Here are videos of how amazing your brain is:

#2 Food for the brain
Ever wondered why you feel so lethargic after lunch or "burnt-out" after a meal?

If you want to get the best of your studying and concentration, you'll have to feed your brain with right stuff.

Here are some foods that KILL your brain and mood to study properly:

1) SWEET/Starchy foods

If you find honey, eat just enough - too much of it, and you will vomit
- Pro 25:16 -

Blood sugar levels play a key role in your concentration and state of mind. Your brain needs lots of sugar (glucose) to operate; more than 2x of the rest of your body! Eating sugar-rich foods is a sure way to put you to sleep!

From the graph, high GI foods (Starchy, Candy...) raise your blood sugar up before crashing down rapidly, depriving your brain of glucose and making you "burnt out".

The KEY to controlling blood sugar levels and to improve your concentration is FIBRE, which is found in VEGETABLES, FRUITS, and WHOLE GRAINS. So please eat them together with your meals to avoid zoning off ^^.

2) SALTY foods
Ever seen students munching on chips as they mug? That's the worst.

Besides making you thirst (and going to the bathroom more), salty foods DEPLETE your body's energy sources (esp. your brain). You will need twice the effort to do the same amount of concentration.

This has to do with the nerve impulses your brain makes - I'll spare you the details on this one. You can ask me personally for details =)

Brain Food:
- Fish/Seafood
Fish is a rich source of essential fats which your brain loves!

- Fluids (H2O)
Most important! A lack of water leads to dehydration would result in decreased Neuro-function.

Finally,

NEVER EVER SKIP BREAKFAST

Thank you Ernest for your advice! Stay tuned for more study tips in the future! :)
