An eye to the future of the world in 40 years time

Hey, hello to everybody! Hope all of you are having a great start to your week so far? No?? Oh, thats sad but I'm sure tomorrow will be a better day for you :)

Anyway, I came across another interesting article online today. Its about the future of the world in 40 years time. Wow, thats certainly newsworthy. I mean, wont you like to find out how the world would be like in 40 years time? No?? Then maybe u should just hide yourself in the storeroom till you age away then, haha.

Ok, cut the jabs and lets go straight to the article, shall we?

*Qm gives crystal ball a turn*

Study predicts women in power, Muslims heading West

In the next 40 years, an unprecedented number of women will be in positions of power, Muslim immigration to the West will rise, and office workers will be unchained from their cubicles, a report released last week says.

South America will see sustained economic growth and the Middle East will become "a tangle of religions, sects and ethnicities," says the report by Toffler Associates, a consultancy set up by the author of the 1970s blockbuster "Future Shock."

Toffler Associates released its predictions for the next 40 years to mark the 40th anniversary of "Future Shock," in which author Alvin Toffler studied the 1970s to see what would happen in the future.

His prognosis 40 years ago was that technology and science would develop at such an accelerated pace that many people would be unable to process the enormous amounts of new information available and would disconnect from life.

Some of "Future Shock's" prognoses have come true, including that news would travel around the world instantly, that same-sex couples would wed and raise families, and that violence and environmental disasters would increase and have broad consequences -- like the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Qm's sidenote: At this point, i have decided to list the other predictions in point form to save all of u the 'pain' of reading the entire article.
  • Larger container ships used to meet increasing demand for faster, cheaper delivery of goods

  • Suez and Panama Canals being "improved."

  • More people to grow their own food, thus reducing their dependency on large manufacturers and distributors

  • Proliferation of high-speed Internet and low-cost video-conferencing freeing office workers from their cubicles and working from anywhere in the world

  • Only a very small number of states will continue to behave as "rogue" nations, namely North Korea and Iran

  • China will position itself as a global economic power, allying with Brazil and India to influence currency use, and with Venezuela and African nations to ensure its energy needs are met.

  • The United States to depend on China for 17 rare earth metals that are essential to produce everything from weapons components to radars to wind turbines and hybrid cars

  • The development of alternative energy forms will create "losers in a post-petroleum world" including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, several Gulf states, Russia and Venezuela

  • Christianity will rise rapidly in the global South, while Muslims will migrate in increasing numbers to the West, where their presence will reshape public attitudes and government policies

  • Climate change will fuel conflict as melting sea ice exposes mineral wealth and oil fields in the Arctic and as rising sea levels force large populations from their homes.

  • An aging population will cause spending on long-term care services for the elderly to nearly quadruple by 2050

  • As for women, they will take on leadership positions around the globe at a never-before-seen rate

  • Information-gathering will speed up even more as the world enters the Petabyte Age,measuring data in petabytes will become the norm, and so will data saturation

Qm's footnote: As you can all plainly see, i think my summary skills need brushing up, lol. On the other hand, i hope the article made good reading for everyone. This may not be a 100% accurate but it certainly pays to know the things that may be coming in the long future, winks*

Till the nxt time you hear frm me again, this is Qm signing off.

To infinity and beyond!!!

The mystery behind the parting of the red sea

Hey hey, hows everybody doing?? :)
I think everyone is prob busy abt their lives which explains why this place is so awfuly quiet.

HEELLLOOOOO..... echo sounds away into the night*

Haha, ok i better stop this nonsense at once. Anyway, i came upon an interesting article at Yahoo this afternoon so i thought i'll share it on the blog with all of you XD

Wind could have parted Red Sea for Moses?

WASHINGTON - Moses might not have parted the Red Sea, but a strong east wind that blew through the night could have pushed the waters back in the way described in biblical writings and the Koran, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.

Computer simulations, part of a larger study on how winds affect water, show wind could push water back at a point where a river bent to merge with a coastal lagoon, the team at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder said.

"The simulations match fairly closely with the account in Exodus," Carl Drews of NCAR, who led the study, said in a statement.

"The parting of the waters can be understood through fluid dynamics. The wind moves the water in a way that's in accordance with physical laws, creating a safe passage with water on two sides and then abruptly allowing the water to rush back in."

Religious texts differ a little in the tale, but all describe Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt ahead of a pharaoh's armies around 3,000 years ago. The Red Sea parts to let Moses and his followers pass safely, then crashes back onto the pursuers, drowning them.

Drews and colleagues are studying how Pacific Ocean typhoons can drive storm surges and other effects of strong and sustained winds on deep water.

His team pinpointed a possible site south of the Mediterranean Sea for the legendary crossing, and modeled different land formations that could have existed then and perhaps led to the accounts of the sea appearing to part.

The model requires a U-shaped formation of the Nile River and a shallow lagoon along the shoreline. It shows that a wind of 63 miles per hour, blowing steadily for 12 hours, could have pushed back waters 6 feet deep.

"This land bridge is 3-4 km wide, and it remains open for 4 hours," they wrote in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS ONE.

"People have always been fascinated by this Exodus story, wondering if it comes from historical facts," Drews said. "What this study shows is that the description of the waters parting indeed has a basis in physical laws.

Qm's sidetrack: I have also attached the video that was made explaining this scientific phenomenon

Qm's footnote: Wow, isnt that cool? Now we have modern science supporting something that took place in God's word so many years ago. Who says science and religion dont mix? Haha rather, they work hand in hand to show it to us that God's word is the truth! Praise the Lord!! =D

So I hope everyone enjoyed reading the article k? Indeed, God's wonders never fails to amaze us so lets continue on strong and feverent in our walk with Him yea?!!

Take care and God bless,
Looking foward to seeing all of you during service tom,
Qm

Hey hey! Guess who's back on the blog???

Haha, its none other than your dear OLD and LOVABLE blogger, Qm.

Well, its been a long time since we last had Wacky 4 Oh Six News but no worries I happen to chance upon not 1 but TWO wacky articles to share with all of u here.

So here are the stories:

Article 1)

Teen runs up dad's cell bill to nearly 22,000

HAYWARD, Calif. – A 13-year-old teen was probably in hot water with his father after running up a cell phone bill of nearly $22,000. Ted Estarija said he was expecting his bill to be higher this month after adding his son to his plan, but wasn't expecting a bill of $21,917 in data usage charges. The Hayward man said his Verizon Wireless bill soared after his son apparently downloaded about 1.4 million kilobytes of data last month.

His plan didn't cover data usage, so he was charged by the megabyte

Estarija said after the first media reports, Verizon said they would credit his account for the entire amount.

He has also suspended his son's account.

A spokeswoman for Verizon said the company investigates cases with exceptionally large bills.

Qm's footnote: Thought u had problems paying your bill??? Think again... Last week when Enyun told me that my phone bill was $87, i was like "somebody take a gun and shoot me pls."So i guess there's always a higher mountain somewhere. Anyway, please dun follow this example k? I always believe that your tithes or offerings should be given to God and not to some mobile company, haha

Article 2)

Book 99 years overdue returned to Mass. library

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – The book returned to the New Bedford Public Library in Massachusetts this week wasn't overdue by a week, a month or even a year. It was nearly a century overdue, and the fine came to $361.35.

"Facts I Ought to Know about the Government of My Country" was supposed to have been returned by May 10, 1910.

Stanley Dudek told the Standard Times newspaper he came across the book while going through things that had belonged to his mother, who died about 10 years ago. He decided that returning the book to the city was the right thing to do.

The overdue book fine was a penny a day in 1910. But Dudek wasn't asked to pay it.

The library plans to display the book in its special collection.

Qm's footnote: Wow, talk about long overdue books. Haha, this book is pratically ancient if i can say but the amazing thing is... the fine is only about $300++! If it happened in our modern context, you'll prob have 2 sell your house to pay off the fine. LOL

So there u go for this edition of Wacky 4 Oh Six news. Till next time, this is Qm signing off with a merry smile and lots of joyful laughter :)

World record for a speech

Hihi! Hope all of you had a great week so far. Well, what do u kw? Tomorrow is sat... which means we can see each other again! Isnt that great? XD

Anyway, today i would like to bring everyone a wacky news article which centers upon what we have been learning for this past week... Communication skills. Hope all of you will find this piece interesting...

Frenchman speaks nonstop for 124 hours to set speech record

PERPIGNAN, France (AFP) - Frenchman Lluis Colet broke the world record for the longest speech after rambling nonstop for 124 hours about Spanish painter Salvador Dali, Catalan culture and other topics.

The 62-year-old Catalan and local government worker spoke for five straight days and four nights to set the record in the southern French town of Perpignan.

Three notaries were on hand to recognise the feat which allows Colet to enter it in the Guinness Book of Records.

The previous record was held by an Indian man who delivered a 120-hour speech.

Colet began speaking at Perpignan's railway station on Monday by reciting the works of famous authors or using some of his own writing. He also spoke profusely about Dali, a painter he admires, and Catalan culture.

Large crowds turned out in support of Colet, who received a rapturous applause at the end of his speech.

"This is a big day for me and I dedicate this record to all those who defend Catalan language and culture," he said, his voice fainter after five days of nonstop talking.

Colet had set the record once before in 2004 when he spoke for 48 straight hours.

Editor's note: Wow, what a record! and i thought women were the ones who liked to talk, LOL. This just goes to show that the fact is not necessary true. =D

Anyway, i was like "Woah" when i saw this article. Ok, i admit i lk talking but i think this is ridiculous la. If saliva had a limited supply, i think the man would have died.

Hopefully, none of you would ever attempt to break that record. I brought up this article to inform, not to inspire, k? Haha

Ok, that just sums up this week's edition of Wacky 4 Oh Six News. Hope you guys enjoyed reading the article.

With lots of love and a never-ending supply of crap,
Qm

Best Job in the World

Hi all, after a looooooooooong break... its time for wacky news again. In case you all did not know, this section is now called "Wacky 4 Oh Six News!"... See! so creative hor? Lolx

Anyway, today i'm going to bring everyone an article talking about the best job in the world. This news article came out last week and the job featured has grabbed the attention of so many across the world. So what exactly is so special about this job? Let’s find out....

Australia offers 'best job in world' on paradise island

SYDNEY (AFP) - - An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months.

The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday

In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.

"They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said acting state Premier Paul Lucas.

"The fact that they will be paid to explore the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, swim, snorkel and generally live the Queensland lifestyle makes this undoubtedly the best job in the world."

Lucas said the campaign was part of a drive to protect the state's 18 billion Australian dollar a year tourism industry during the tough economic climate caused by the global financial meltdown.

"Traditional tourism advertising just doesn't cut it sometimes and we are thinking outside the box by launching this campaign."

Queensland Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said some people might question whether it was risky to let an unknown person become an unofficial tourism spokesperson for the state.

"I think the biggest risk will be that the successful candidate won't want to go home at the end of the six months," she said.
"This is a legitimate job which is open to anyone and everyone."

Applications are open until February 22. Eleven shortlisted candidates will be flown to Hamilton Island in early May for the final selection process and the six month contract will commence on July 1.

Editor's note: Sounds like fantasy eh? Who wouldn't want a dream job like that?? Just laze around on an island and get a few thousand dollars out of it. Haha, so good! From what i heard, a few thousand people have visited the website (i have deleted the link to the site, in case any1 of you try to be funny...) to apply for the job and what do u kw? The website crashed, haha. It’s crazy but true.

This just goes to show you how many desperate people there are in the world who desires to get rich, WITHOUT TRYING TO WORK HARD. As far as this job goes, it does sound interesting but i wonder if there are any hidden clauses attached, hmm....... Let’s see how it goes when some1 actually gets the job.

In the meantime, this is Qm signing off from another article on Wacky 4 Oh 6 News! XD

News!

Hi all. This is my new weekly news column for the cg blog. Its called "Wacky news, 真的,假的?" LOL, so creative hor? thx thx =D

My first artice was on the sky diver, now its on the KISS OF DEAF !

You might say "aiyo, typo error la." my response is "nono, its correct. Why? Read on to find out...

A young Chinese woman was left partially deaf following a passionate kiss from her boyfriend.
The 20-something from Zhuhai in Guangdong province arrived at hospital having completely lost the hearing in her left ear, said local reports.

The incident prompted a series of articles in the local media warning of the dangers of excessive kissing.
"While kissing is normally very safe, doctors advise people to proceed with caution," wrote the China Daily.

The doctor who treated the girl in hospital was quoted in the paper explaining what had happened.
"The kiss reduced the pressure in the mouth, pulled the eardrum out and caused the breakdown of the ear."
The chorus of warnings was echoed by the Shanghai Daily, which wrote: "A strong kiss may cause an imbalance in the air pressure between two inner ears and lead to a broken ear drum."

The young woman is expected to regain her full hearing within about two months.

Qm's note: So now all of you all know how dangerous kissing is le. Like what the article said, proceed with caution k? Haha.

真的,假 的?

真的! XD

News!

hihi. I don't quite know what to blog about today. However, i came across an interesting piece of news today online. Just thought, I'll share it with u all...

Skydiver in good condition after frightening fall

HOMESTEAD (CBS4) ― A Miami area skydiver is recovering after an accident damaged his parachute at 13 thousand feet.

Skydive Miami said 27-old year Rafael Sarria, an experienced jumper, ran into trouble when he snagged his chute as he left the plane, damaging both the chute and the plane. The plane was able to land safely as the Sarria plummeted to earth.

Miami Dade Fire Rescue said they received a call about 11 a.m. Sunday that a skydiver had landed in an avocado field in Homestead near 296th Street and Southwest 212th Avenue, about 2 miles northeast of the airport the plane had taken off from. Due to the lack of roads and rough terrain, firefighters and paramedics had to haul rescue and life saving equipment more than 300 yards through the grove to reach Sarria.

Paramedics treated and stabilized him. Although he was injured, they said Sarria was in good spirits. He was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

On Monday, Sarria remained in stable condition with pains in his back, a few minor cuts, and bruises on his armpits from the parachute straps.

Qm's personal comment: I was like: "Wha! You damn lucky la."

Btw people, 13000 feet is equals to about 800 stories ++ (apparently damn lucky is not enough. should be damn times 1000 to the power of 100,000)

I think some people, who fall down and hit their heads, have a high chance of entering a coma already.... Somemore after he landed, he was in good spitits. How can you still be happy after falling from so high up??? All i can say to the person is "obviously, you must have someone special up there looking after you..." This is truly one great miracle!
