The Most Anticipated Movies of 2009!!! XD
How many of us recall watching a great movie last year? Well, tell you what people. This year is going to be more exciting, there are lots of big blockbuster movies coming your way this year. Animated films, Sequels, Action, Comedy, whatever genre you want, you name it…2009 has it! Ok, enough of me blabbering on…. Here is the list of movies, their Singapore release dates, and links to the trailers (where possible). Hope it’ll bring forth some excitement to you, in a movie that you can look forward to, this year…
He’s Just Not That Into You (19/2/09) – Weiren’s recommendation!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IeXqvFR6HISynopsis: Based on a self-help book written by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, this movie centers on the ever-widening gap between genders and the misunderstandings that often arises between couples. In the film, a woman can't seem to get a firm grip on the men in her life. She then pursues an advice columnist who never quite knew what he wanted in a relationship…
Editor’s comment: What initially caught my eye about this film was not the storyline but rather, the all-star cast that appeared in the show. This movie stars actors and actresses like: Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston (my fav actress), Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck etc… and I was like “WOW!” (People who watch movies often should know who they are, wink*) Anyway, I later read through the story plot and found it rather meaningful to watch as well. Moreover, this film is a comedy so I truly believe everyone of you will find it interesting! Lastly, this film was brought to you, courtesy from our beloved cg leader, Weiren. To not watch is at your own peril, hahahahahahahaha
Street fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (27/2/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6SS7yn6VngSynopsis: This movie is a live-action feature film based on Capcom's video game. The new film is focused on female fighter Chun Li and her journey for justice.
Editor’s Comment: After a loooooooooong time, there is now another Street Fighter movie to boast about. Seems exciting and all, with all the power pack action in store. However, I have my doubts towards this film. Video game movies are generally known to be flops as they lack a solid story plot. Want a few examples? How about: Doom, Dead or Alive (DOA), Final Fantsay: The Spirits within, etc… So will this movie make or break? We shall see….
Watchmen (6/3/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3orQKBxiEgSynopsis: In a gritty and alternate 1985 America, the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown. However, after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered, an investigation is initiated. The retired superheroes reunite and set out to prevent their own destruction with an extra mission to watch over humanity. In the course of doing so, they unwittingly discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot.
Editor’s comment: Honestly, I don’t know much about this film. From what I gather, this film is adapted from a comic book. However, the synopsis makes the movie seem thrilling and exciting to watch though. Hmm…I think can consider watching ba.
Dragonball Evolution (14/3/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl47lCR-bYkSynopsis: Goku and a handful of friends battle for the Earth against the deadly forces of the Saiyans, who are sweeping across the universe, leaving a path of destruction. Goku and his friends' best chance for survival rests with the Namekian DragonBalls, which provide them the power to summon a mighty dragon.
Editor’s comment: I think this movie should fare better than Street Fighter. Why? Because instead of being made from a video game, it’s made from a Japanese TV series! Haha. Seriously, I’m kind of intrigued by what the movie has in store for hardcore dragonball fans. Will it match their expectations or be just another big yawn??? Once again, I’ll leave it up for the audience to decide…
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (30/04/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX6H7t1wXZISynopsis: Hugh Jackman stars in this prequel to the X-Men trilogy exploring how Logan became the adamantium blade-wielding mutant Wolverine.
Editor’s comment: One of the movies I’m looking forward to watching this year. Not many people know the story about how wolverine came about (unless u read the comics that is), so I’m glad that Marvel has decided to do up the movie. I think this show is mainly more towards the guys (with the exception of Sunthari that is) Cos it’s like violence and guys love violence ma, LOL. No la, action, not violence. =D
Star Trek (8/5/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yrdEe95Hs0Synopsis: This is the beloved sci-fi franchise in this prequel exploring the early days of James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer space mission.
Editor’s comment: With all due respect to people who may like Star Trek, I don’t think this is our generation type of movie but anyhow like what I said there MAY be some really hardcore star trek fans and so you should be excited that this movie is coming out this year.
Angels and Demons (14/5/09) - I really wrote angles and demons. That sounds so wrong, since when did demons learn to count??? LOLx
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zvGvKYwv_Q
Synopsis: Tom Hanks returns as the "Da Vinci Code" cryptologist Robert Langdon. He tries to solve a murder and thwart a plot by an ancient group, the Illuminati, to blow up the Vatican the
Editor’s comment: This is to me, the most controversial movie of 2009. Based on the novels written by Dan Brown, this movie is the second part in its series. I just hope there won’t be any worldwide protests this time round when the movie is released. For the people who desire suspense, the movie is highly rated for you
Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (21/5/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRDBAIfrhcISynopsis: The story has all the artifacts of Museum of Natural History sent to the archives at the Smithsonian in Washington. Ben Stiller will return as nightwatch security guard Larry Daley who this time, has to control all the mischievious artifacts that have come to life within the Smithsonian
Editor’s comment: Once again, we shall see funnyman Ben Stiller starring in another comedy this year. I guess its back to his usual antics of surviving when he comes across all the weird happenings in the museum. He was seen battling a T-rex and roman gladiators in the previous film. What else could be in store for him next??? Truly, this action/adventure film promises to be loads of fun (and humour) for everyone, regardless of young or old.
Monsters vs Aliens (28/5/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SfqWGmRffMSynopsis: This animated movie is about a girl who accidentally gets hit in the head by a meteorite and grows to become a giant. She is later captured by the U.S military and meets a group of monsters. However, they are later freed when they are called upon by the military to thwart an invasion of aliens.
Editor’s comment: This is a movie with an interesting storyline. Btw, I find the pic on the right quite cute. To be honest, it kind of reminds me of Oswin…LOL
Terminator Salvation (28/5/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puAxrOTqtr4Synopsis: Christian Bale (batman) stars as John Connor this time. John, who is now in his 30s, leads what is left of the human race against the machines.
Editor’s comment: You know, everytime you go for a meal at a restaurant, the waiters will always serve you appetizers before the main course. I believe this same analogy applies here. I feel that this movie is the so called “appetiser” to another machine movie. (Hint: the movie is listed below) Anyway, I think this movie is good enough on its own ba. If it wasn’t for …… I think this movie could easily have been the movie of the year for 2009.
Fast and Furious (12/6/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cib8oEhbxc4
Synopsis: When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Conner. But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmanuever him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what's possible behind the wheel.
Editor’s comment: This movie is rather self-explanatory and is yet another sequel in the fast and the furious saga. Actually, I don’t really like the show cos it’s not my kind of movie. However, for those of you out there who happen to like fast cars and enjoy games like Daytona and initial D, then this might just be the movie for you.
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (26/6/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhVU8t6p_G0Synopsis: The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons. Meanwhile, the Autobots’ short lived peace on earth is shattered when they find out that Megatron's dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox. He is later revived and is back seeking revenge against the autobots. Both teams have reinforcements this time round but the Autobots may have more to deal with than what meets the eye, namely someone by the name of The Fallen.
Editor’s comment: For those of you who guessed what movie I was talking earlier on while commenting on Terminator… All I have to say…. YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!! This movie is called to be THE BIGGEST, if not best, movie for 2009. With a multi-million dollar budget and plenty of special effects, this sequel promises more in terms of the epic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.
Ice age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (02/7/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRshVCcT2USynopsis: Manny, Sid, Diego and Ellie are back in this third film in the computer-animated Ice Age series. Expect them to have close encounters towards danger all round as they seek to help a fellow friend.
Editor’s comment: Like what has been said above, this film is the third installment in the ice age series. Like monster vs aliens, I believe this show would make decent money in the box office as it is a lighthearted tale about friendship. Expect lots of laughs for this one as well. =D
2012 (09/7/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVdP1xgwg10Synopsis: This apocalyptic movie is based on a Mayan belief and it tells of a global disaster that will bring about the end of the world in 2012.
Editor’s comment: Similar to movies such as “The Day after Tomorrow, Deep Impact and Armageddon,” this is another disaster movie of its kind. If you like disaster movies talking about the end of the world, then this movie is for you. If not, just continue to laze around and enjoy life ba. Haha
Harry porter and the Half-Blood Prince (16/7/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wclDW5nAaBcSynopsis: Daniel Radcliffe returns as Harry Potter, who begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He discovers an old book marked mysteriously "This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince" and soon begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort's dark past.
Editor’s comment: The sixth movie installment based on the Harry Porter series looks set to amaze many with more doses of action, spell-casting, and suspense. This movie is also set to be one of the contenders for movie of the year. I don’t know about you but I’m kind of looking forth towards catching this film as well. That’s if I haven’t entered NS yet that is….Ugh*
G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra (02/8/09)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjdBaRcMV2oSynopsis: This is a live-action film based on the action figure G.I. Joe, an American soldier. The movie revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organisation headed by a Scottish arms dealer.
Editor’s comment: Does that name G.I. Joe ring in a bell in your head? If it does, then congrats! You must have played with the action figure or watched the cartoon series before. For those who have never…don’t fret, all’s not lost. This movie looks set to churn out lots of butt-kicking action. Another movie for all you action movies fans out there.
Final destination 4 aka Final Destination: Death Trip 3D(27/8/09)

Synopsis: Nick O'Bannon and his friends narrowly escape a grisly death at the race track when Nick sees a horrific vision of the future. But fans of the three previous three films know that Death doesn't like to be cheated, and now the characters will have to struggle to survive.
Editor’s comment: Ok, I know I said it many times le but this movie is one that I’m looking forward to. Just for the record, I’m not sadistic or anything but I just like the storyline in the final destination series. So for those who like final destination movies as I do, let’s rejoice, Part 4 is going to be released this year!
Ps: They should have released this film during the F1 season ma. Then no1 will dare to go watch F1 le, hahahahahaha
The following movies below have no release dates in at the present moment when I was writing this piece. This means these movies could be released late in 09 or pushed forth to 2010. Anyway, if you happen to know when the movie is going to be released in Singapore, feel free to update it. XD
Astroboy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shz79sHoXs8Synopsis: Set in futuristic Metro City, AstroBoy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma (Nicolas Cage). Powered by positive "blue" energy, Astroboy (Freddie Highmore) is endowed with super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed and the ability to fly
Editor’s comment: Oh boy, this is one movie that I’m struggling to comment on. Cos I just realized that this movie was based on an anime character and I don’t watch anime!!! Howeverrrr….maybe people like Sunthari (anime expert) and Ya hong (astroboy fan) can tell you all more about it ba. Haha
Up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsKejacl1qsSynopsis: This movie is a comedy/adventure film about a 78-year man named Carl Fredricksen, who's spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe. Due to his age, he thinks life has "passed him by". However, one day, a twist of fate comes into his life. He meets an 8-year old wilderness explorer named Russell, who changes his outlook on life.
Editor’s comment: Just imagine…What will life be like without an animation film from Disney Pixar’s productions? I recalled Weiren once told me this “Any movie from Pixar is good, so you can watch it.” Well, that statement is true enough. Time and time again, Pixar has delivered or exceeded the expectations of many with its films. Think movies like Ratatouille and Wall-e, and you will know what I mean. Haha, I’m so looking forward to this film.
Ps: the boy in the film is super cute la. Haha, just check out the photo.
Sherlock holmes
Synopsis: The story tells of detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Dr John Watson who engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis, whose plot is a threat to all of England.
Editor’s comment: I don’t know how many of you have read the book before but Sherlock Holmes is indeed a very classic character to hit the major screens. Although not much is known about the film at the present moment, one can expect lots of suspense from it. Why? Cos it’s elementary, my dear Watson!
Twilight 2: new moon
Synopsis: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly, she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and subsequently finds her loyalties tested.
Editor’s comment: Finally I’ve arrived at the last movie that I’m going to talk about. Haha. So fans of twilight, I’m sure every single one of you is in full anticipation of the sequel. Although, you all might have read the book but I’m sure you all know that pictures often say a thousand words… So get ready people, New moon is hitting the big screens soon.
Phew! And there you have it, 17 (+4) mouth-watering movies to look forward to this year. Like what I said earlier, whether is it comedies, action or animation films that you are looking forward to watching this year, 2009 promises to be an exciting year ahead, in terms of providing entertainment to your heart’s content.
So what are you waiting for? Mark down those dates of the movies that you desire to watch, on your calendar right away and count down the days till it is released. Of cos…don’t idle your days away while waiting la. Do something meaningful. Remember…God hates laziness. Hahahahahaha. Ps that was random but I couldn’t help it. XD Qm
