The mystery behind the parting of the red sea

Hey hey, hows everybody doing?? :)
I think everyone is prob busy abt their lives which explains why this place is so awfuly quiet.

HEELLLOOOOO..... echo sounds away into the night*

Haha, ok i better stop this nonsense at once. Anyway, i came upon an interesting article at Yahoo this afternoon so i thought i'll share it on the blog with all of you XD

Wind could have parted Red Sea for Moses?

WASHINGTON - Moses might not have parted the Red Sea, but a strong east wind that blew through the night could have pushed the waters back in the way described in biblical writings and the Koran, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.

Computer simulations, part of a larger study on how winds affect water, show wind could push water back at a point where a river bent to merge with a coastal lagoon, the team at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder said.

"The simulations match fairly closely with the account in Exodus," Carl Drews of NCAR, who led the study, said in a statement.

"The parting of the waters can be understood through fluid dynamics. The wind moves the water in a way that's in accordance with physical laws, creating a safe passage with water on two sides and then abruptly allowing the water to rush back in."

Religious texts differ a little in the tale, but all describe Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt ahead of a pharaoh's armies around 3,000 years ago. The Red Sea parts to let Moses and his followers pass safely, then crashes back onto the pursuers, drowning them.

Drews and colleagues are studying how Pacific Ocean typhoons can drive storm surges and other effects of strong and sustained winds on deep water.

His team pinpointed a possible site south of the Mediterranean Sea for the legendary crossing, and modeled different land formations that could have existed then and perhaps led to the accounts of the sea appearing to part.

The model requires a U-shaped formation of the Nile River and a shallow lagoon along the shoreline. It shows that a wind of 63 miles per hour, blowing steadily for 12 hours, could have pushed back waters 6 feet deep.

"This land bridge is 3-4 km wide, and it remains open for 4 hours," they wrote in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS ONE.

"People have always been fascinated by this Exodus story, wondering if it comes from historical facts," Drews said. "What this study shows is that the description of the waters parting indeed has a basis in physical laws.

Qm's sidetrack: I have also attached the video that was made explaining this scientific phenomenon

Qm's footnote: Wow, isnt that cool? Now we have modern science supporting something that took place in God's word so many years ago. Who says science and religion dont mix? Haha rather, they work hand in hand to show it to us that God's word is the truth! Praise the Lord!! =D

So I hope everyone enjoyed reading the article k? Indeed, God's wonders never fails to amaze us so lets continue on strong and feverent in our walk with Him yea?!!

Take care and God bless,
Looking foward to seeing all of you during service tom,
Qm

BOOMZ*

3...2..1. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hey hey, happy new year 2 everyone :) Indeed, 2009 has been a year filled with much love, pain, challenges and joy but like what the word of God says "We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." Rom 8:37

Yes, We have conquered and made it through 2009 and nw we have arrived at 2010. A new year beckoning of many blessings and breakthroughs for u. Lets believe that 2010 WILL be our greatest and finest year yet yea? Only believe and im sure that it will come 2 past. =DD

Alright, lets K.I.S.S (keep it short and simple) Today, i will bring all of u the Top 10 English songs of 2009. So are u curious 2 find out which artistes' hits are hot and whether is your favourite song the number 1 song of 2009? Haha, lets find out.

Courtesy of 987FM, the countdown begins.....

#10
Boys like Girls~ Love Drunk

Qm's take: When i first heard this song, i didnt think much abt it but little did i kw, what a big hit this song would turn out 2 be. Apparently, it has gotten some many people love drunk that this song has nw made it into the top 10 chart.

#9
Just Dance~ Lady Gaga

Qm take: Just dance, gonna be ok. Just dance, spin the record babe.
Yea, spin that record! Indeed, 2009 has been the year for Lady Gaga. Pretty much an unknown when she burst into the music scene this year, well look at her now...she is a well-known superstar and a pop music icon. Truly with so many big hits under her belt, it looks lke 2010 is going 2 get better and better for Lady Gaga.

#8
Love Story~ Taylor Swift

Qm's take: Wow, it seems like love is in the air. This is the second song in the top 10 chart that has the word "love" in it. Well, i dun think i nd 2 talk much abt this song since its lk so popular and all. I think prob all of u can sing it backwards or something la and every1 say... Yes. Haha

#7
Right Round~ Flo Rida

Qm's take: Talk abt a simple song. Who says that a simple song can't be in the top 10 chart? A combination of rapping and RnB, 'Right Round' has all the ingredients necessary 2 cement its place as number 7 on the list.

#6
Party In The USA~ Miley Cyrus

Qm's take: Frankly speaking, i didnt expect Miley Cyrus 2 be in the list but she made it so im nt going 2 shortchange her glory. This song has a funky beat 2 it and is unlike any other songs in the top 10 list. So well done 2 Miley Cyrus. i believe we will be hearing a lot from her next year as well.

#5
Fireflies~ Owl City

Qm's take: Aww.. sad. Fireflies isnt number 1 cos its a strong contender for it. I guess all is nt meant 2 be bright for Owl city. Oh well, number 5 is still a good achievement though and this song is highly worthwhile 2 listen to.

#4
Put A Ring On It~ Beyonce

Qm's take: Calling all the single ladies! Put a ring on that!! Beyonce has managed 2 rock 2009 with her hits once again. This time its 'Put A Ring On It' that has her on the chart. So what else can we expect from Beyonce in 2010. Well, frm the looks of it, much much more i suppose.

#3
You Belong With Me~ Taylor Swift

Qm's take: Well done Taylor Swift! This is her 2nd big hit of 2009 that has made it on the chart. Specialising in country music, Taylor Swift has shown that she can pack a punch or two into the type of songs she sings. Thus, this explains the numerous awards she won this year, including the best female video award for this song at the 2009 MTV video music awards.

#2
Poker Face~ Lady Gaga

Qm's take: Aww nw is my turn 2 be sad. Cos initially i predicted this song 2 be number 1 but oh well, it'll have to settle for the number 2 spot then. 'Poker face' is the nxt gigantic hit for Lady Gaga this year after 'Just Dance', so it just goes 2 show how well Lady Gaga has done this year. Like what i've mentioned earlier on, 2010 is going 2 get even better and better for Lady Gaga.

And Now, the number 1 song in 2009.....

Drum bells roll*

Cymbals clash**

People gasping for breath***

Cats Mewing*... (what on earth is a cat doing here???)

Is

#1
I gotta feeling~ Black Eye Peas

Qm's take: I GOTTA FEELING that this song... was nt going to be number 1. But surprisingly, it is! Haha, well done 2 the Black Eyed Peas for this great hit which has managed 2 top the charts this year. Whoo hoo!! May B.E.P continue 2 produce such great hits lk that in 2010.

So there u have it, the top 10 english songs of 2009. Actually, from the list i felt quite discouraged, COS HW COME NO GUY SINGERS 1??? I guess 2009 has been the year of reign for female singers then, haha.

So once again, well done 2 all the singers who have produced such great hits for us in 2009. Music makes the world go round and indeed, these songs have played somewhat of a role in our lives in 09. May we expect 2 hear more great hits in 2010. Till then, this is Qm signing off but b4 i go, i would like 2 leave every1 with the memorable lyrics of a song.

Fireflies by Owl City

I'd like to make myself believe
That planet earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
Because my dreams are bursting at the seams

May your dreams take u to greater heights in 2010!

Israel's edit (15/07):

My brother Josiah commented that Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince wasn't in this list. Thus, I've decided to add it in ;)

Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince
Release date: 16 July 2009 --> Jedidiah's and Josiah's birthday

Synopsis: Lord Voldermort is wreaking havoc throughout Britain as Harry Potter begins his sixth year at Hogwarts. The pressure to defeat the Dark Lord grows stronger in the young wizard. Using an old Potions Book which previously belonged to the 'Half-Blood Prince', Harry is able to increase his magical knowledge and prepare for battle. However, he must first help Dumbledore discover the secret to Voldermort's quest for immortality - the location of his Horcruxes. But the quest for the Horcruxes and the resulting battle at Hogwarts produce a tragic outcome - leading Harry to believe that he must head out on his own to conquer the Dark Lord.

Editor's Comment: Fans of the famous Harry Potter series would be extremely excited for this movie! I remember spending entire days just reading Harry Potter books. I believe this movie would be worth watching. This is one movie you don't want to miss!

P.S I heard that the tickets for tomorrow's show are already sold out.

G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra (06/8/09)

Synopsis: This is a live-action film based on the action figure G.I. Joe, an American soldier. The movie revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organisation headed by a Scottish arms dealer.

Editor’s comment: Does that name G.I. Joe ring in a bell in your head? If it does, then congrats! You must have played with the action figure or watched the cartoon series before. For those of u who have never heard of it…don’t fret, all’s not lost. This movie looks set to churn out lots of butt-kicking action that will keep all of you action movies fans out there satisfied.

Up (06/8/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7kW0mUzIDI

Synopsis: This movie is a comedy/adventure film about a 78-year man named Carl Fredricksen, who has spent almost his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe. Due to his age, he thinks life has "passed him by". However, one day, a twist of fate comes into his life. He meets an 8-year old wilderness explorer named Russell, who changes his outlook on life.

Editor’s comment: Just imagine…What will life be like without an animation film from Disney Pixar’s productions? I recalled Weiren once told me this “Any movie from Pixar is good, so you can watch it.” Well, that statement is true enough. Time and time again, Pixar has delivered or exceeded the expectations of many with its films. Think movies like Ratatouille and Wall-e, and you will know what I mean. Haha, I’m so looking forward to this film.

Ps: The boy in the film is super cute la. Haha, just check out the photo and the trailer, and u will kw what i mean.

Final destination 4 aka Final Destination: Death Trip 3D(27/8/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m_rkiPqGdc&feature=channel_page

Synopsis: Nick O'Bannon and his friends narrowly escape a grisly death at the race track when Nick sees a horrific vision of the future. But fans of the three previous three films know that Death doesn't like to be cheated, and now the characters will have to struggle to survive.

Editor’s comment: Ok, I know I said it many times le but this movie is one that I’m looking forward to. Just for the record, I’m not sadistic or anything but I just like the storyline in the final destination series. So for those who like final destination movies as I do, let’s rejoice, Part 4 is going to be released this year! In 3-D somemore, HAHA!

Ps: Oh no! This film is being released this film during the F1 season. Any1 still fancy 2 go and watch a race??? Shudder*

Astroboy (05/11/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFjMAkHRu3Q&feature=channel_page

Synopsis: Set in futuristic Metro City, AstroBoy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma. Powered by positive "blue" energy, Astroboy is endowed with super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed and the ability to fly.

Editor’s comment: Oh boy, this is one movie that I’m struggling to comment on. Cos I just realized that this movie was based on an anime character and I don’t watch anime!!! Howeverrrr….maybe people like Sunthari (anime expert) and Ya hong (astroboy fan) can tell you all more about it ba. Haha.

Saw 6 (05/11/09)

No details about the movie as of present moment

The Twilight saga: New Moon (03/12/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSFMmkMfQ5Q&feature=channel_page

Synopsis: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly, she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and subsequently finds her loyalties tested.

Editor’s comment: At last you fans of twilight, I’m sure every single one of you is in full anticipation of the sequel. Although, all of u might have already read the book but I’m sure you all know that pictures often say a thousand words… So why don't u go forth and see the movie too??? New moon is hitting the big screens soon!

Storm Warriors 2 aka 風雲 II (17/12/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La_J77JDOZk&feature=channel_page

Synopsis:
10 years on since the first movie, Ekin Cheng & Aaron Kwok return as Wind & Cloud respectively, to fight a Japanese warlord intent on invading China.

Editor's comment: Wha, almost 10 years has passed since part 1 was shown. Though its been so long ago, I still have vague recollections of the movie. However, there is 1 thing i can definately remember and that is plenty of sword fighting action plus cool special effects in that film. Therefore, one can expect no less from this sequel. Yet another recommended film for all of u action movie fans out there!

Sherlock holmes (24/12/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUQbmFAE5WI&feature=fvst

Synopsis: The story tells of notable detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Dr John Watson who engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis, whose plot is a threat to England.

Editor’s comment: I don’t know how many of you have read the book before but Sherlock Holmes is indeed a very classic character to hit the major screens. Although not much is revealed about the film, one can surely expect lots of suspense from it. Why? Cos it’s elementary, my dear Watson!

Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel (24/12/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRVNjhGH3ow&feature=channel_page

Synopsis: The 3 chipmunks: Alvin, Simon and Theodore return in this sequel and this time, they must put aside music superstardom to return back to school. Then, they are tasked with saving the school's music program, by competiting for $25,000 in a battle of music bands. Their unlikely opponents come in the form of 3 other female singing chipmunks. Watch as how romantic and musical sparks begin 2 fly when the 2 teams face off.

Editor's comment: Haha, I have nothing much 2 comment le since the synopsis pretty much tells u more or less of what the movie is about. However, i do feel that this is a great movie 2 watch during the end of year festive season. What better way 2 end the year with lots of laughs and plenty of squeakylicious (no such word btw!) fun??? Do consider watching if u feel bored during X'mas!

Ok, finally I'm done. Im so glad 2 be back 2 blogging. It certainly helped me 2 exercise my fingers rather than training up my muscles and abs the whole day. Haha. Anyway, i just hoped that all of u had fun reading this post. You can treat it as a half time break from all the study tips if u want, haha.

In the meantime, I just want 2 say 2 every1 all the best in your studies and may all of u excel in the things u do in life! :)

With lots of love and plenty of kisses,
Qm

Daily confessions

Greetings to all my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Here are some good bible verses that Weiren has handpicked for u to help u in your spiritual growth. As Jesus said "Men shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." Therefore, it is good that in addition to reading His Word and our daily prayers, we can also come forth and confess the word of God aloud in our lives. So let's make confessing these verses a daily habit in our lives, amen? I believe u will be able to live a more blessed and positive life as u do so!!!

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen =D

7 Tips to lift a bad mood

Hihi, I'm sure everyone enjoyed Ernest's article on Weight issues. So i guess all of u nw kw why u all put on weight eh? Haha.

Anyway, today i'll be posting on some helpful tips to help you in your personal lives as well. =D
Today's topic is on 7 tips to help you lift a bad mood. I believe this is something that will bless your lives greatly by helping you overcome any form of emo-ness in future!

No one can live a long and healthy life without the will to go on; sometimes mood swings can make us feel that life is too much for us.

A bad mood not only gives you a gloomy outlook, it also lowers your immune function, leading the way to illness. Here are some suggestions to lift your mood, your spirit, and your health.

1. A Laughing Matter"

Laugh Therapy," pioneered by Norman Cousins, has turned out to have real substance. Research has discovered that laughter and joy boost immune functions, especially the production of the natural killer cells that help defend the body from illness and cancer.

Laughter also increases the release of endorphins - compounds that give you a sense of well-being - in your brain. Without a doubt, joyful people liver longer and healthier lives. So read your favorite comics, watch your favorite comedies, and laugh it up!

2. Amino Acid for Restored Mindset

When an imbalance or deficiency is creating a bad mood, the Europeans use supplements of a natural compound found in human cells to regulate mood and restore a healthy mindset. SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine) is produced from methionine, an amino acid that plays a role in the production of uplifting neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine.

One study indicated that SAMe worked on patients who had unsuccessful results with conventional antidepressants. To get a boost from SAMe, take a supplement combining it with vitamins B6 and B12.

3. Hands-On Healing

Human touch increases the production of endorphins, growth hormone, and DHEA, all of which lengthen your life span and lower the negative impact of stress. Studies have found that patients who are regularly touched recover faster than those who are not touched. So give someone a hug and feel both of your moods improve.

4. Boost Your "Youth Hormones"

You don't need pills to flood your body with a rejuvenating flood of growth hormones. Research has found that doing squats and leg presses will greatly increase your natural production of the "youth hormone". Increased growth hormone translates to an elevated mood, among other physical benefits. Keep it up with weight training, knee bends, push-ups, and rowing.

5. Take a Bracing Breath

Breathing correctly is important for dispelling the toxins and wastes from your body; in fact, it is estimated that we expel only about 30 percent of toxins in our bodies through the bowels and bladder-the rest is all respiratory. Breathing is also a great way to clear your mind, boost your energy, and improve your mood. Practice deep, slow, rhythmic, breathing daily with mind-body disciplines such as tai chi, yoga, qigong, and meditation.

6. Smell the Joy

Research has shown that smell has a definite impact on our bodies and minds. When you stimulate the olfactory nerves inside your nose, you activate the limbic system of your brain, which is associated with moods and memory. This concept is instrumental to aromatherapy, a natural health tradition that makes use of the healing powers of plants with strong scents.

Aromatherapy recommends treating depression with jasmine, eucalyptus for exhilaration, and grapefruit to increase alertness and joy. Just put a dab of the essential oils from these plants on your temples, back of your neck, or acupressure points. Another option? Boil the herb in water and inhale the steam through your nose.

7. Feel Fine with Flowers

There is a reason that flowers are the traditional get-well gesture. Colorful flowers have a powerful influence on moods; they can uplift a patient's mood and even combat stress. One study found that during a five-minute typing assignment, people sitting next to a flowering bouquet were more relaxed than those who sat near foliage-only plants.

Editor's note: Haha, hopefully after everyone finishes reading this, none of you will ever suffer from emo-ness again. And if you ever happen 2 suffer from it, you'll kw what 2 do in future. Wink wink*

So 2 end off, I just want 2 say "May you live strong, long and happy, and may these tips help the good feelings flow out of you!"

“Dear Lord, thank you for this meal you’ve blessed me with. Please bless the food but curse the fats”
– Anonymous church goer

Hi boys & girls! Yea I know I’ve been rather inactive on the blog due to other commitments (EXAMS – eww, the sheer mention of that word elicits dread in most). But that’s all about to change. I hope to see an improvement in the health/fitness of W406 (hopefully) by sharing my humble tips on the Science and Arts behind fitness, nutrition, health & disease.

In the write-ups, I’ll be clarifying doubts that you may have on health isues as well as shattering the myths & fables of the human body. Do feel free to ask me. Just as the word says: “Ask and you shall receive”, therefore, I’ll answer your questions (to the best of my ability) and give you whatever tips that might be beneficial to help you in whatever way possible.

This week I was asked the question on weight. Perhaps this serves as an excellent starting point for my post. So…what am I made of? Why does my weight seem to vary so very often? Have I *gasp* gained WEIGHT? Am I fat?!!!!

Ans: NO… and here’s why:

Firstly, let me state that we’re 60 – 70% WATER. You lose and gain weight each day mainly by how much water you take (or do not). As you breathe, perspire, urinate, and poop, about 2500 mL of water is LOST. Using the density of water is 1 g/mL ( this is physics ppl, Sorry I couldn’t resist, lol), that works out to be 2.5 KG. Of course this doesn’t happen... unless you don’t eat and drink that is…

As you can see, DRINKING lots of WATER (> 2000 mL) daily is good for you. However, I could eat something spicy or salty that makes me really thirsty. That translates to drinking more water (maybe 4000 mL?) and gaining more “weight”. Ta-tah…

However, not to neglect the important portion, it’s important to know if you’re really gaining FAT instead. Ok … back to basics: besides the 60-70% water, 10 – 25% of our bodies compose of fat (Oh, that dreadful word again)

This is more for ladies and less for guys (More on this, when i talk abt protein/muscle l8tr).

Second qn: How do I know if I’m fat? Do i use the weighing scale?? (btw “weight” is wrong, in physics we use “mass”)

Ans: WRONG. You use the MEASURING TAPE (at navel level) to see if you’ve gone “Fatter”. This is simply because fat is normally deposited at the abdominal area, a decrease in waist length means a loss in fat (the reverse is also true)! As fat is less dense (0.9 g/mL), a loss in fat may not correspond to the bathroom scale but with the tape.

So… do not be alarmed when you “suddenly” put on weight, as most of the time it could be just due to water (hopefully).

And there you have it people, the answers to 2 very simple qns on weight. Do keep the questions coming and feel free to approach me, should you still be in doubt after reading the blog post.

To end off, i just want to wish everyone a happy and healthy life in the Lord!

Cg sermon ~ The Art of Communication

Helloooooo. As promised, this is the cg sermon on communication. For all those who missed cg last sunday, this is 1 impt sermon that you dun want 2 miss out...

What is proper Communication?

Proper Communication is a 3-way process of talking, listening, as well as understanding what the other party is saying.

Impt fact: We communicate by word, gesture and spirit

James 1:19- be swift in listening and slow to speak

Prov 18:13- do not try 2 be kay kiang in your speech by answering some1 b4 he has even finished telling u the whole matter. The bible describes that as shameful

Prov 26:18-19- don't attempt to hurt someone's feelings by saying something and later meaning it to be a joke. The bible calls u a madman if u do that

prov18:24- to have frens, 1 must first have be friendly and approable

prov 16:24- use pleasant words to edify people. The bible says pleasant words are like sweetness to the soul and health to the bones

prov 10:19- somtimes, one has to restrain himself/herself while talking to others. This is because there is tendency for one 2 say the wrong things as he/she talks lot. In short, practice wisdom in speech and u will be fine XD

5 levels of Communication (COMET)

1st level: Cliche Conversations

example: something that we do in church during the 3 mins of getting 2 kw some1 new

2nd level: Others- reporting the facts on others

example: "Hi Tom, guess what?! I saw Jessica in the new dress the other day!"

3rd level: My ideas and Judgement

example: "I really don't think that dress looks good on Jessica"

4th level: Emotions and feelings

example: "However, i really wish i can be as rich as her. Then i can have something new to wear every other day."

5th level: Total truthful, open communication (only attainable between spouses or to your parents!)

example: "Don't worry about it, dear. Frankly, i think that dress would look fat on you. To me, anything u wear is fine.... because..... You are like to me, a dazzling jewel in my eyes" AWW.... So Sweet

Ok, there u have it. The cg sermon all done and nicely packaged for u. Hope you all find the info clear and easy 2 understand. Any doubts, approach your cgls.(connect group leaders)

I'm sure all of us can look forth towards having many pleasant conversations with each other in future. Qm =D

Valentine's day posts part 3

Finally, I’ve come to the last segment of my Valentine’s Day series. What better way is it then to sing a beautiful song to your friend on V day? For this, I’ll have to bring you back 7 years ago to find a reallyyyyyy good romantic song (for our generation that is, I don’t think any of you would want oldies, haha)

Coincidently, that single was also the number song on Feb14 that year. Ok, without further ado, let me now tell you the name of the song which is none other than……….Enrique Iglesias’s - "Hero"

Here are the lyrics and the video to the song, hope all of you will find it nice =D

Would you dance
if I asked you to dance?
Would you run
and never look back?
Would you cry
if you saw me crying?
And would you save my soul, tonight?

Would you tremble
if I touched your lips?
Would you laugh?
Oh please tell me this.
Now would you die
for the one you loved?
Hold me in your arms, tonight.

I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.

Would you swear
that you'll always be mine?
Or would you lie?
Would you run and hide?
Am I in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
I don't care...
You're here tonight.

I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.

Oh, I just want to hold you.
I just want to hold you.
Am I in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
I don't care...
You're here tonight.

I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by your forever.
You can take my breath away.

I can be your hero.
I can kiss away the pain.
And I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.
You can take my breath away.

I can be your hero

Editor’s note: Though this song is like centuries old now but I still find the song very touching. The lyrics are also very meaningful and what a brilliant idea it is to listen to this song on V day. (cos it brings out the romantic feel, doesn’t it darling??? LOL)

Anyway, that just about sums up my valentine day’s posts. Hope you all enjoyed reading everything that has been posted. I’ll be looking forward towards seeing you guys tomorrow and may all of you have a great valentine’s day this year!

With lots of love and plenty of kisses,
Qm

Ps: I found this super cool website that allows you to check what the number one song was at any date in a year. Here is the link to the website: http://www.everyhit.com/dates/

Valentine's day posts part 2

Hi to all. Like what I said, this is a series that I’m doing on Valentine’s Day. Part 2 is based on a skill that I dearly cherish, humour. So I hope everyone will find these jokes amusing and may it brighten up your day ahead!

The first two jokes are about friends

Joke number one

A couple of New Jersey hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing; his eyes are rolled back in his head.

The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps to the operator: "My friend is dead! What can I do?"

The operator, in a calm soothing voice says: "Just take it easy. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence then a shot is heard. The guy's voice comes back on the line. He says: "OK, now what?"

Joke number two

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were going camping. They pitched their tent under the stars and went to sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night Holmes woke Watson up and said: "Watson, look up at the stars and tell me, what do you see?"

Watson replied: "I see millions and millions of stars."

Holmes said: "And what do you deduce from that?"

Watson replied: "Well, if there are millions of stars, and if even a few of those have planets, it's quite likely there are some planets like earth out there. And if there are a few planets like earth out there, there might also be life."

And Holmes said: "No Watson, you idiot, it means that somebody has stolen our tent.”

Err…the third joke is not about friends but it certainly shows you what damage a comment can have on others (in a hilarious way)

A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: "That's the ugliest baby that I've ever seen. Ugh!" The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: "The driver just insulted me!" The man replies: "how dare the driver do that?!” “You go right up there and tell him off immediately…Go ahead, I'll hold your monkey for you first."

Lastly, let me bring u all my all time favourite marriage joke

Before Marriage:

Boy: Yes. At last. It was so hard to wait

Girl: Do you want me to leave?

Boy: No! Don’t even think about it!

Girl: Do you love me?

Boy: Of course! Over and over!

Girl: Have you ever cheated on me?

Boy: No! Why are you even asking?

Girl: Will you kiss me?

Boy: Every chance I get.

Girl: Will you hit me?

Boy: Are you crazy? I’m not that kind of person.

Girl: Can I trust you?

Boy: Yes.

Girl: Darling!

After Marriage — Simply read from bottom to top.

Editor’s note: Just to let you all know, the 1st and 2nd jokes were voted the funniest jokes in the world respectively. Anyhow, I think humour is a great way of expressing oneself to others, be it to friends or people that you are meeting for the very first time. Who knows, maybe u can tell these jokes to your friends on V day. Of cos, you have to be wary about certain things you say. Otherwise, you’ll end up like that man in joke number three. YOU have been warned, hahahahahahaha.

Valentine's Day posts

Hi all! After that big blockbuster post last week, which I worked my butt off while trying to complete on time + everyone’s “help” in coming to me and saying “Quick Qm! Faster la… you promised us you’ll post it by today, etc…...ARRAGH, bang head*…I thought! I’ll be bringing something simple and light-hearted to everyone today. XD

As you all know, this sat is Valentine’s Day aka Friendship day. (OH MY! You mean it’s this sat??? I haven’t bought gifts yet!!! haha) So, on behalf of commemorating this special occasion, I will be bringing everyone a series of posts, beginning with a little poetry. Hope you all will enjoy it k?!

Mere words

By Kit McCallum

You’re not alone

By KC

I searched among the card displays,

To see if I could find,

A little something that would say

Just what was on my mind.

You're never alone, I'm always near,

When your troubled, down or blue.

All you have to do is call me,

I'm always here for you.

However there was not a one,

That captured it just right,

For no one else can understand

Just what I'd like to write.

It doesn't matter where I'm at,

It doesn't matter when.

When you need someone to talk to,

I'm here to be your friend.

I even find it difficult

To try to write it down,

For how do I portray to you,

The love that I have known?

If you need someone to hold your hand,

or a hug to say I care.

If you need a shoulder to cry on,

for you I will be there.

I close my eyes and what I see,

Is someone I adore;

A person who is beautiful,

Right down into their soul.

So never think you are a burden,

when the weight gets to be to much.

You might find if look hard enough,

a good friend could be the right touch.

Mere words cannot describe

The many qualities you show,

The love and caring nature that

You share with those who know.

You're never alone, I'm always here,

through the good times and the bad.

I'm always here to be your friend,

I don't like to see you sad

Your kind and gentle temperament,

Your sweet angelic smile,

Your softly spoken sentiments,

That reach across the miles.

Your smile and laugh that sparkle with

The softness of your sighs,

The way your face lights up a room ...

That twinkle in your eye.

The loving gestures through the years,

That quickly come to mind,

For always you've a gentle word

To calm and soothe I find.

I struggle and I search to try

To find some words anew ...

And yet I cannot capture

All the things that make you, you

I shall therefore, be satisfied

That you must simply know,

Just how I feel about you,

For with words I cannot show.

Editor’s note: Hope you guys found the poems interesting. I certainly did, that’s why I decided to share them with all of you. Haha. Hmm…Maybe you are a little unsure about what you can do for that dear friend of yours on Feb 14 this year. Let’s see…what can u do? Eureka, I got it!

Instead of just merely saying a word of thanks or worse…doing nothing at all, how about making use of this opportunity to recite these poems to your good friends? Show them how much he/she means to you or how much you care for that person?? I’m sure they will be touched dearly by your sincerity. =D

I’ll be looking forward to hearing good results from you when you do that. Till next time, this is angelic Qm signing off. Cheers!

Most anticipated movies of 2009

Hi everybody, it’s back to school again and I do believe that everyone of you had a great CNY. Moreover now that you all are back in school, its time to prepare for the first semester CA….Aww…. Qm, you spoiler la. Haha ….Nevertheless today, in a bid to excite you people, I’m going to bring everyone an interesting topic…which is none other than The Most Anticipated Movies of 2009!!! XD

How many of us recall watching a great movie last year? Well, tell you what people. This year is going to be more exciting, there are lots of big blockbuster movies coming your way this year. Animated films, Sequels, Action, Comedy, whatever genre you want, you name it…2009 has it! Ok, enough of me blabbering on…. Here is the list of movies, their Singapore release dates, and links to the trailers (where possible). Hope it’ll bring forth some excitement to you, in a movie that you can look forward to, this year…

He’s Just Not That Into You (19/2/09) – Weiren’s recommendation!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IeXqvFR6HI

Synopsis: Based on a self-help book written by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, this movie centers on the ever-widening gap between genders and the misunderstandings that often arises between couples. In the film, a woman can't seem to get a firm grip on the men in her life. She then pursues an advice columnist who never quite knew what he wanted in a relationship…

Editor’s comment: What initially caught my eye about this film was not the storyline but rather, the all-star cast that appeared in the show. This movie stars actors and actresses like: Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston (my fav actress), Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck etc… and I was like “WOW!” (People who watch movies often should know who they are, wink*) Anyway, I later read through the story plot and found it rather meaningful to watch as well. Moreover, this film is a comedy so I truly believe everyone of you will find it interesting! Lastly, this film was brought to you, courtesy from our beloved cg leader, Weiren. To not watch is at your own peril, hahahahahahahaha

Street fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (27/2/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6SS7yn6Vng

Synopsis: This movie is a live-action feature film based on Capcom's video game. The new film is focused on female fighter Chun Li and her journey for justice.

Editor’s Comment: After a loooooooooong time, there is now another Street Fighter movie to boast about. Seems exciting and all, with all the power pack action in store. However, I have my doubts towards this film. Video game movies are generally known to be flops as they lack a solid story plot. Want a few examples? How about: Doom, Dead or Alive (DOA), Final Fantsay: The Spirits within, etc… So will this movie make or break? We shall see….

Watchmen (6/3/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3orQKBxiEg

Synopsis: In a gritty and alternate 1985 America, the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown. However, after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered, an investigation is initiated. The retired superheroes reunite and set out to prevent their own destruction with an extra mission to watch over humanity. In the course of doing so, they unwittingly discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot.

Editor’s comment: Honestly, I don’t know much about this film. From what I gather, this film is adapted from a comic book. However, the synopsis makes the movie seem thrilling and exciting to watch though. Hmm…I think can consider watching ba.

Dragonball Evolution (14/3/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl47lCR-bYk

Synopsis: Goku and a handful of friends battle for the Earth against the deadly forces of the Saiyans, who are sweeping across the universe, leaving a path of destruction. Goku and his friends' best chance for survival rests with the Namekian DragonBalls, which provide them the power to summon a mighty dragon.

Editor’s comment: I think this movie should fare better than Street Fighter. Why? Because instead of being made from a video game, it’s made from a Japanese TV series! Haha. Seriously, I’m kind of intrigued by what the movie has in store for hardcore dragonball fans. Will it match their expectations or be just another big yawn??? Once again, I’ll leave it up for the audience to decide…

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (30/04/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX6H7t1wXZI

Synopsis: Hugh Jackman stars in this prequel to the X-Men trilogy exploring how Logan became the adamantium blade-wielding mutant Wolverine.

Editor’s comment: One of the movies I’m looking forward to watching this year. Not many people know the story about how wolverine came about (unless u read the comics that is), so I’m glad that Marvel has decided to do up the movie. I think this show is mainly more towards the guys (with the exception of Sunthari that is) Cos it’s like violence and guys love violence ma, LOL. No la, action, not violence. =D

Star Trek (8/5/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yrdEe95Hs0

Synopsis: This is the beloved sci-fi franchise in this prequel exploring the early days of James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer space mission.

Editor’s comment: With all due respect to people who may like Star Trek, I don’t think this is our generation type of movie but anyhow like what I said there MAY be some really hardcore star trek fans and so you should be excited that this movie is coming out this year.

Angels and Demons (14/5/09) - I really wrote angles and demons. That sounds so wrong, since when did demons learn to count??? LOLx

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zvGvKYwv_Q

Synopsis: Tom Hanks returns as the "Da Vinci Code" cryptologist Robert Langdon. He tries to solve a murder and thwart a plot by an ancient group, the Illuminati, to blow up the Vatican the

Editor’s comment: This is to me, the most controversial movie of 2009. Based on the novels written by Dan Brown, this movie is the second part in its series. I just hope there won’t be any worldwide protests this time round when the movie is released. For the people who desire suspense, the movie is highly rated for you

Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (21/5/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRDBAIfrhcI

Synopsis: The story has all the artifacts of Museum of Natural History sent to the archives at the Smithsonian in Washington. Ben Stiller will return as nightwatch security guard Larry Daley who this time, has to control all the mischievious artifacts that have come to life within the Smithsonian

Editor’s comment: Once again, we shall see funnyman Ben Stiller starring in another comedy this year. I guess its back to his usual antics of surviving when he comes across all the weird happenings in the museum. He was seen battling a T-rex and roman gladiators in the previous film. What else could be in store for him next??? Truly, this action/adventure film promises to be loads of fun (and humour) for everyone, regardless of young or old.

Monsters vs Aliens (28/5/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SfqWGmRffM

Synopsis: This animated movie is about a girl who accidentally gets hit in the head by a meteorite and grows to become a giant. She is later captured by the U.S military and meets a group of monsters. However, they are later freed when they are called upon by the military to thwart an invasion of aliens.

Editor’s comment: This is a movie with an interesting storyline. Btw, I find the pic on the right quite cute. To be honest, it kind of reminds me of Oswin…LOL

Terminator Salvation (28/5/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puAxrOTqtr4

Synopsis: Christian Bale (batman) stars as John Connor this time. John, who is now in his 30s, leads what is left of the human race against the machines.

Editor’s comment: You know, everytime you go for a meal at a restaurant, the waiters will always serve you appetizers before the main course. I believe this same analogy applies here. I feel that this movie is the so called “appetiser” to another machine movie. (Hint: the movie is listed below) Anyway, I think this movie is good enough on its own ba. If it wasn’t for …… I think this movie could easily have been the movie of the year for 2009.

Fast and Furious (12/6/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cib8oEhbxc4

Synopsis: When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Conner. But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmanuever him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what's possible behind the wheel.

Editor’s comment: This movie is rather self-explanatory and is yet another sequel in the fast and the furious saga. Actually, I don’t really like the show cos it’s not my kind of movie. However, for those of you out there who happen to like fast cars and enjoy games like Daytona and initial D, then this might just be the movie for you.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen (26/6/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhVU8t6p_G0

Synopsis: The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons. Meanwhile, the Autobots’ short lived peace on earth is shattered when they find out that Megatron's dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox. He is later revived and is back seeking revenge against the autobots. Both teams have reinforcements this time round but the Autobots may have more to deal with than what meets the eye, namely someone by the name of The Fallen.

Editor’s comment: For those of you who guessed what movie I was talking earlier on while commenting on Terminator… All I have to say…. YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!! This movie is called to be THE BIGGEST, if not best, movie for 2009. With a multi-million dollar budget and plenty of special effects, this sequel promises more in terms of the epic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Ice age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (02/7/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRshVCcT2U

Synopsis: Manny, Sid, Diego and Ellie are back in this third film in the computer-animated Ice Age series. Expect them to have close encounters towards danger all round as they seek to help a fellow friend.

Editor’s comment: Like what has been said above, this film is the third installment in the ice age series. Like monster vs aliens, I believe this show would make decent money in the box office as it is a lighthearted tale about friendship. Expect lots of laughs for this one as well. =D

2012 (09/7/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVdP1xgwg10

Synopsis: This apocalyptic movie is based on a Mayan belief and it tells of a global disaster that will bring about the end of the world in 2012.

Editor’s comment: Similar to movies such as “The Day after Tomorrow, Deep Impact and Armageddon,” this is another disaster movie of its kind. If you like disaster movies talking about the end of the world, then this movie is for you. If not, just continue to laze around and enjoy life ba. Haha

Harry porter and the Half-Blood Prince (16/7/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wclDW5nAaBc

Synopsis: Daniel Radcliffe returns as Harry Potter, who begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He discovers an old book marked mysteriously "This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince" and soon begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort's dark past.

Editor’s comment: The sixth movie installment based on the Harry Porter series looks set to amaze many with more doses of action, spell-casting, and suspense. This movie is also set to be one of the contenders for movie of the year. I don’t know about you but I’m kind of looking forth towards catching this film as well. That’s if I haven’t entered NS yet that is….Ugh*

G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra (02/8/09)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjdBaRcMV2o

Synopsis: This is a live-action film based on the action figure G.I. Joe, an American soldier. The movie revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organisation headed by a Scottish arms dealer.

Editor’s comment: Does that name G.I. Joe ring in a bell in your head? If it does, then congrats! You must have played with the action figure or watched the cartoon series before. For those who have never…don’t fret, all’s not lost. This movie looks set to churn out lots of butt-kicking action. Another movie for all you action movies fans out there.

Final destination 4 aka Final Destination: Death Trip 3D(27/8/09)

Synopsis: Nick O'Bannon and his friends narrowly escape a grisly death at the race track when Nick sees a horrific vision of the future. But fans of the three previous three films know that Death doesn't like to be cheated, and now the characters will have to struggle to survive.

Editor’s comment: Ok, I know I said it many times le but this movie is one that I’m looking forward to. Just for the record, I’m not sadistic or anything but I just like the storyline in the final destination series. So for those who like final destination movies as I do, let’s rejoice, Part 4 is going to be released this year!

Ps: They should have released this film during the F1 season ma. Then no1 will dare to go watch F1 le, hahahahahaha

The following movies below have no release dates in at the present moment when I was writing this piece. This means these movies could be released late in 09 or pushed forth to 2010. Anyway, if you happen to know when the movie is going to be released in Singapore, feel free to update it. XD

Astroboy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shz79sHoXs8

Synopsis: Set in futuristic Metro City, AstroBoy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma (Nicolas Cage). Powered by positive "blue" energy, Astroboy (Freddie Highmore) is endowed with super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed and the ability to fly

Haha

Up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsKejacl1qs

Synopsis: This movie is a comedy/adventure film about a 78-year man named Carl Fredricksen, who's spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe.

Haha, just check out the photo.

Sherlock holmes

Synopsis: The story tells of detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Dr John Watson who engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis, whose plot is a threat to all of England.

Editor’s comment: I don’t know how many of you have read the book before but Sherlock Holmes is indeed a very classic character to hit the major screens. Although not much is known about the film at the present moment, one can expect lots of suspense from it. Why? Cos it’s elementary, my dear Watson!

Twilight 2: new moon
