Oh boy! How wrong was that. Haha
He then started to go more in depth towards the verse. By emphasising this verse to us again, I could tell how important it was to him that we got the message right. He gave us the hard truth about God's word concerning rewards and honour. By using biblical examples, he wanted to show us instances in the bible, when people either received no reward, a partial reward or a full reward from God.
Mark 6:5 (no reward as Jesus was restrained)
Mark 6:3-4 (reason why Jesus was restrained)
Luke 5 ( no reward for the sick pharisees and teachers present in the meeting with Jesus)
Dr John then concluded these examples and told us the common reason why the people in the above verses received no reward from God. The reason is that the people gave Him No honour!!!)
Isa 29:13
Dr John then gave us some positive examples from the bible, where people received the full reward from God when they:
1) gave God the honour He deserved
2) they touched Him with their faith
Here are the following verses Dr John used in his sermon, to illustrate the point about honouring God.
Luke 13:35
John 13:20
1 Sam 2:30
However, he soon goes on to say that we should honour people around us as well. This includes people who might be cruel or bad to you. This is taught in the Sermon of the Mount, the Beatitudes. Jesus says that in Matt 5:46- If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? (new international version)
Matt 10:40-42
Dr John then goes on to say in that verse, that Jesus identifies the three levels of human beings we come in contact with:
1) Those who have authority over us- "prophet"
2) Those who are of equal authority as us- "righteous man"
3) Those whom we are entrusted with, under our care- "little ones"
Dr John wanted to get us to understand the significance of honouring people. This is because he told us that all authority is actually from God and not from men. He even gave us a helpful tip towards dealing with people may seem disregarding towards you. He told us to look beyond that man/woman and look towards God who is actually behind that person :)
Lastly, he wrapped up the sermon by sharing on four areas of delegated authority.
1)Civil authority (which also means public authority) - Romans 13:3-4, 1 Peter 2:17
2)Family authority - Eph 6:2-3,Deu 27:16
3)Social suthority - 1 Tim 6:1
4)Church authority - 1 The 5:12, 1 Tim 5:17-18

Sermon Outline- John bevere services
Ok, here is the sermon outline for the sunday service. The verses are highlighted in pink. (don't ask me why I choose pink pls...)
How to attain a full reward in God through honour
Once again, Dr John began his sermon by speaking to us about the verse 2 John 8. By revolving around that verse at first... I thought he was going to repeat his previous sermon yesterday but I was soon proven wrong.
